Building your dream closet - Style basics

If your anything like me your style changes A LOT. This means you get sick of anything and everything in your closet. Having the staple pieces are a must if you have this problem. They go with everything and will never go out of style.

NUMBER 1: BASIC TANK TOPS

Black and White Tank tops can be morphed to fit almost any style you want. You can dress them down or up and if styled correctly no one will notice how much you wear them.

You can also find these anywhere and they are relatively inexpensive.

Zara has basic b&w tanks from $5.90

NUMBER 2: BLUE JEANS

Right now it's all about mom jeans, baggy jeans, and carpenter jeans. But when the style of jeans continues evolving, a staple in everyone's closet will continue to be straight blue jeans. They pair easily with small tops, chunky sweaters, sweatshirts, flannels, etc. so they are super easy to style.

My current favorite blue jeans are from BDG Urban Outfitters.

They are a little bit pricier but the good thing about blue jeans is that you can find them anywhere, and at cheaper prices.

NUMBER 3: BLACK JEANS

I am not a skinny jean type person, but black high waisted skinny jeans are an exception. They are definitely more of a winter pant. If you are REALLY against skinny jeans basic black/grey mom jeans also give the same dressed-up effect.

I love Pull&Bear for pants and jeans because they fit super well and are inexpensive.

NUMBER 4: WHITE PANTS

White, Beige, Cream, and anything else in that minimalist color scheme are an absolute necessity if you want a cute wardrobe. You cannot scroll through Pinterest without seeing someone in these pants, that's a good sign.

My fav pair is from Pull & Bear.

NUMBER 5: GOLD JEWELRY

It doesn't have to be real gold don't worry. Any gold looking jewelry that doesn't tarnish completely transforms an outfit. The chunkier the jewelry the better. So stock up on chunky gold hoops, necklace chains, and rings. Trust me you will be able to tell the difference from your outfits before and after.

Amazon is a great place to find inexpensive "gold" jewelry. But if you don't want to give any more money to Jeff Bezos, there are TONS of small business accounts on Instagram that sell super cute jewelry. If you are looking for any recommendations check out these black-owned business brands that sell super cute jewelry.

OmiWoods on Etsy sells beautiful necklaces and pendants.

Oma the Label has the best staple chunky rings and earrings.

Jam and Rico sell beautiful pieces.

ByChari is perfect for everyday wear dainty jewelry.

There are so many more amazing black-owned businesses with amazing pieces and with one quick google search, you can find one with the perfect pieces for you.

NUMBER 6: BLACK SUNGLASSES

Obviously black sunnies. These have been around forever and you probably already have some lying around somewhere.

The style of sunglasses depends on what type of look you're looking to achieve. I recommend a pair of big model looking black frame sunglasses and a pair of tiny trendy black sunnies.

These match with literally EVERY SINGLE outfit.

There are way too many stores I could name where you could find sunglasses. Honestly, if you type in a description of what you are looking for on Google, Depop or any other online store you will for sure find super cute ones.

That's all my fashion advice for today! If you are on a budget the good thing about these pieces is that the quality doesn't really change from buying it a cheaper store than at a super expensive luxurious one, and if you are more into thrifting/upcycling clothing these items are very basic so they should be easy to find or recreate!

xoxo,

Carmen (your 16-year-old stylist)
